Hawai’i State Law requires that you present certain documents in order to ship your vehicle inter-island. The Hawai’i Revised Statutes Section 286-2 also considers motorcycles and motor scooters to be vehicles. The person delivering the vehicle must fall under one of the following categories and will be required to present documentation as follows:
Legal or Registered Owner
- Identification
- Current Registration or Certificate of Ownership
- Proof of Insurance
NOT the Legal or Registered Owner
- Identification
- Current Registration or Certificate of Ownership
- Proof of Insurance
- NOTARIZED letter from registered owner or legal owner or lien holder authorizing you to ship the vehicle with the following information:
- Vehicle year
- Make
- Model
- Vehicle Identification Number
- Weight
- Name of person authorized to ship vehicle

Notarized letters must be presented to the local port office within 30 days of the date of the letter.
