Community Gift Giving
Welcome and mahalo for visiting our Community Gift Giving page! Young Brothers supports our local island communities in many ways, including Community Advisory Board Grants for the counties of Kauaʻi, Maui and Hawaiʻi, Young Brothers in-kind gratis shipments, and the Saltchuk Hawaiʻi Regional Giving Committee, all supported by GIVINGTrax – our platform for giving programs.

During the 100 plus years we have been in business, Young Brothers has supported numerous community needs. To strengthen our community gift giving commitment and to provide a more formal way of contributing, in 2001 we established Community Advisory Boards (CAB) for the counties of Kauaʻi, Maui and Hawaiʻi. The Community Advisory Boards are made up of volunteers who are active citizens in their respective communities, and they help us identify where Young Brothers’ grants will have the greatest impact.
Projects eligible for grants are in the categories of health, education, civic and community services, youth activities, cultural enrichment, environment, and special community projects. Charitable organizations must be designated 501(c)3 by the Internal Revenue Service.
Applicants interested in applying for CAB grants from YB should register for a profile on the GIVINGtrax website. Once you are registered, you can either search for each county’s microsite on GIVINGtrax, or you may also click on the appropriate county’s link below to navigate directly.

As Saltchuk companies, we work together to make meaningful impacts in the communities where we live, work and serve. Our network of sister companies has a rich history of giving back, contributing an average of $2.5 million in cash and in-kind support each year.
In addition to the significant support directed through our operating companies, in 2014 Saltchuk established Giving Committees in Alaska, Washington, Florida, and Hawaiʻi.
The Hawaiʻi committee represents the three Saltchuk companies operating here: Young Brothers; Hawaiʻi Petroleum & Minit Stop; and Aloha Air Cargo. The Hawaiʻi Regional Committee distributed approximately $250,000 in 2014 and $260,000 in 2015.
Grant Criteria: Programs and projects making an impact in the areas of Post-Secondary Education and Youth Development will be considered for 2016 grants. Saltchuk seeks to partner with organizations that make a significant and sustainable impact on their communities. Please share with us how we can help your organization make a difference.
Grant recipients must be a registered as a 501(c)(3) and serve the Hawaiian Islands.
To apply: Please submit all requests through our GivingTrax portal. There isn’t a set deadline, as grants are awarded throughout the calendar year.
